- David Bowie is the cover star. The associated story on page 7 is about his forthcoming UK tour, which may be his last as he drops pop and becomes a movie star instead. Meanwhile, it’s time to boycott Melody Maker: they won’t run an advert for Gay News. Reviews include The Dream King by Wilfred Blunt and Glenda Jackson in Collaborators at the Duchess.
- This issue was late getting to subscribers and the newsstands due to industrial action by the T&G and ASLEF amongst others on 1 May, protesting the government’s incomes policy.
- A fairly good looking young man is required to act as barman in pub near London with “gay” atmosphere. Applicant, who should not be too camp-looking, need not possess experience, but must be clean, honest and not afraid of reasonably hard work. First-class accommodation provided and opportunities exist for promotion. Consideration would be given to refunding fare if applicant is presently living a long distance away. Write with all details and if possible a recent photograph. Box 22/90 – page 18
