The big story from Issue 25 is back: The Happiness Club, a ‘friendship group’ that has resorted to threatening to out gay members unless they pay off its debts. The devastating arson attack on the UpStairs Lounge gay club in New Orleans is investigated (more info at Wikipedia). CHE and SMG have walked out of the National Federation of Homophile Organisations. Reviews include The World, The Flesh and Myself by Michael Davidson and Live and Let Die.

An abundance of news and subsequently, a lack of space, has forced us to omitt John Gough’s feature on Hermaphroditism. It will now appear in GN 29. – page 19

The Campaign for Homosexual Equality and the Scottish Minorities Group have walked out of Antony Grey’s National Federation of Homophile Organisations. Spartacus, the gay travel guide, has died; nevertheless, a new edition is out. The police are ‘likely’ to arrest Dennis Stanbury of the blackmail-inclined Happiness Club. In the advice column, a 17-year-old has fallen for his 19-year-old colleague, whilst Brian is repelled by the idea of anal sex. Reviews include Loving Them Both: a study of bisexuality and bisexuals by Colin MacInnes and Beggar My Neighbour at the Swiss Tavern.

A solicitor defending a gay charged with indecent assault recently told the magistrates that a computer dating service was being used to help find a girlfriend for his client. “So far,” he said, “the computer has failed to come up with an answer, but he has been offered a re-run.” – page 20
